The Role of Consumption in Brave New World:

The role of consumption in BNW is stated clearly: Everybody lives to consume.

In the BNW, everybody has a job, there is no unemployment. To keep this system stable, the individuals in BNW have to consume as much as possible of the mass-produced goods, because consuming keeps people working.
Every individual in BNW has been tought to consume as much as possilbe, because the government wants consumption to be the pillar, which keeps the world state stable.
Obviously, the world state´s government vieuws one thing, when consumption is like a branding on their mind, they will need the world state and it´s rules, because it offers so much to them, like employment and shelter.

Now ask yourself, are we independent from consumption, and does consumtion control us? Can we live without consumption?
